What happens at the Fly-In

You can expect... NO ADMISSION CHARGE! Howzat!

Transport: Shuttle bus to Evans Head town centre, beaches, local sites and off-site accomodation.

Food: On-site catering, special dinner offer, local food markets, as well as access to local cafes and restuarants.

Amenities: Camping sites and basic infrastructure needs.

Pilot Information: Daily briefings, Mogas fuel only – drums available, aerodrome circuit use, air display programme, general safety information and radio frequencies.

Movie Night: Good Classic Family Fun.

Joy Flights: For everybody's taste! Fly the family over the beach and spot the dolphins, feel the breeze in your hair, thrill seekers fly upside-down and, for that once in a life-time adventure, experience the raw power of a genuine Warbird.

Tourism Information: Richmond Valley and North Coast Tourism Sample Bags - maps, clubs, National Parks and programme of events.

North Coast Markets: Lots of local stalls.

Classic Cars:  Vintage, Veteran, WWII MIlitary vehicles and more

The Great Eastern Fly-In is a community event for all aviators and the general public, with plenty of opportunites to view aircraft and talk to pilots.

Activities:  Aviation Museum, RPA/Drone flying, re-enactment groups, Rural Fire Service, Kids activities, aviation stalls, model clubs and more

Where The Sky Meets The Sea


Welcome to the 2018 Great Eastern Fly-In. Here are details which we hope assist you, have a great time.
• Free Entry to Aerodrome site.
Donations on entry welcome for Charity of the Year and running the Fly-In.
• Open 7.30 am - Saturday and Sunday.
Friday, aircraft arriving so you’re welcome to come and watch.
• Parking on site - Free. You’ll be directed to parking areas by people and signs. Disabled Parking.
• Pedestrian access – via Pedestrian Gateway at Main Entrance.
• Access - General
The Great Eastern site is a working airfield and as such has uneven ground throughout the area, of varying surfaces (grass, gravel, concrete, tar). This may pose challenges for some people and we’ve made every effort to have the site as accessible as possible. If you have any particular needs please contact us and we will see if we can assist. Please stay behind all fencing and barriers at all times.
• Fly-In Aircraft
Many types of aircraft will be Flying in to attend over the weekend: GA, recreational, ultralights, warbirds, motorgliders, helicopters, Paramotor, gyros, twins, vintage, bi-planes, aerobatic and a great model aircraft static display. Chat to the pilots, check out the aircraft!
What to See and Do
• Air Displays
Air Displays run intermittently on Saturday and Sunday. We are lucky to have some of Australia’s top aerobatic and display pilots flying a range of aircraft. Displays are varied, aerobatic, formation flying and more. See the WW11 Memorial Flypast with a Squadron of Warbirds, the Extraordinary Yak 3 – Steadfast, T28 Trojan, P51 Mustangs, RAAF Winjeels, CT 4, Harvards and more.
• Air Display Programme – Download available from mid December and in the Northern Star Newspaper - 30th December.
• Passenger Flights
These are available all weekend outside Air Display times. Aircraft include:
P51 Mustang, Trojan T28, Yak 52, Yak3, Winjeel, SNJ (Harvard), Cessna 172 (3 seats),
Helicopter – MASH B47 and other.
Bookings taken by operators prior to the Fly-In weekend as well as Gift Vouchers. Contact us for details.
• Trial Instructional Flights - TIFs
Gyros and Microlights – take a Flight you might become our next pilot!
• Static Aircraft displays – lots of different types.
• The Evans Head Aviation Museum – small charge for entry - $5 single - $15 – family.
• Saturday – The “Flying” Market – all day, classic North Coast Market, something for everyone.
• Sunday – Classic Car “Drive-In” – all day, love old cars, bikes and more - this is for you.
• The Australian Travelling Museum Bus and Evans Head Living Museum Heritage Marquee.
• Rural Fire Service display, TAFE North Coast
• Kids Activities – Jumping Castles, Spray Slide, Paper Plane making, Face Painting.
• Flight Simulators - Australian Owners and Pilots Association travelling Aviation Coach and Mission Australia.
• Merchandise – Information Centre, Joy Flight operators, aircraft models, etc.
• Drone flying demos – come and learn all about these new aircraft.
• Westpac Helicopter, & lots more!

• Volunteers are always welcome – if interested please contact us on the number below.
Facilities
• FIRST AID - St John’s First Aid station is located adjacent to the Main Marquee and Information Centre.
• ATM on site
• Food Outlets - A variety of food and drinks are available, catering for a wide range of tastes. Sample some of the North Coast’s yummy food!
• Amenities Blocks - Toilets and Showers
• Disabled amenities available next to the Amenities Block.
• Bring your own chair if you want to sit to watch the aircraft – limited seating available.
Camping
There is camping available onsite for the weekend, with two designated areas available. Those pilots wanting to camp with their aircraft please refer to the Pilot’s Information. Guidelines for camping are:
• Camping available – Friday to Monday – fees apply - $20 per site per night, 2 nights, 3rd night free.
• Please pay for camping at the Information Centre immediately on arrival.
• No bookings are available, first in first served.
• Amenities are basic - limited showers available.
• Amenities Blocks lit at night and we recommend torches as well!
• Please keep them as clean as possible - thanks.
• No cooking facilities provided.
• No fires allowed – sorry Fire Bans are usually in place.
• Generators – we prefer none but if you need for health or battery emergency please use between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm only. No generators at any other time, thanks.
• Camping tags to be tied to your camp and be visible.
• Please respect your neighbours and no late, loud noise – thanks.
• Friday Night – Wood Fired Pizza at the Main Marquee.
• Saturday night - Dinner available – limited places, purchase at the Information Centre.
Two course meal – Main - Spit roast (beef and lamb), 4 X salads, baked potatoes, gravy/condiments
Desert - a selection of 4 deserts - Tea and Coffee available – BYO – soft drinks available.
Vegetarians and gluten free alternatives.
Adults - $25
Children under 16 - $10
PLEASE leave these at home as they don’t mix with aircraft, Thanks:
• NO DOGS or other animals allowed on site, including campers. Vision and Companion dogs exempt – see us on entry.
• No alcoholic beverages on site – thanks.
• No Drones – thanks.
• No skateboards – thanks.
• No portable quickshades or sunshades – they can be blown away by aircraft!
